| Writers and Poets Héctor Rojas(1921-2002) – Poet, short-story writer and painter. This recognized writer was twice awarded the Esso Prize for his novels Breathing the Summer and The Archbishop Will Arrive in November. His other well-known novel is Celia se Pudre and Colcultura published some of his poetic works in 1976. Rojas Herazo was also an outstanding painter who took part in over 40 exhibitions. He was born in Tolú. Giovanni Quessep – Poet and essayist. After studying philosophy and letters in Bogotá, this poet went on to obtain a postgraduate diploma in Italy. The University of Cauca also gave him the title of Doctor Honoris Causes in Philosophy and Letters. His poems and essays have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers. In 2004 he received the "José Asunción Silva National Prize of Poetry" for his book Lunar Ember. His other works include, Duration and Legend, The Foreigner's Song, and Poetic Anthology. The writer was born in San Onofre, in 1939. Artists (Painters)     R. Barrios E.GuevaraH. González R. Panizza Regina Barrios This exceptional painter has had shows in Barranquilla, Bogotá, SantaMarta, Medellín, Neiva, and Mexico City. She has received several awards for her work. Regina was born in Sincé in 1954. Edgar Guevara Guevara has received recognition in several places and has exhibited in Valledupar. He was born in Sincelejo. Hernando González – Architect and painter. This artist has collaborated to promote the art and culture of Colombia through local and international exhibits, including, Germany, Holland, England, and Switzerland. In Colombia his work has been shown in Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena and Sincelejo, where he was born. Rafael Panizza Panizza has exhibited his work throughout Colombia, in cities such as, Barranquilla, Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, and Cartagena. He has also seen success internationally in places like New York, London, Brussels and Havana. He was born in Corozal in 1953. |

 Musicians Alfredo Gutiérrez – Accordionist. This exceptional artist that sings, dances and plays the accordion, has been crowned Kingof the Vallenata Festival three times. In 1991 he was elected the world champion of the accordion in Germany. He was the founder of two musical groups, the "Corraleros de Majagual" and "Los Corporales del Magdalena”. Gutiérrez was born in Paloquemaosucre in 1940.  José Serpa – Cyclist. This great sportsman was the cycling Champion at the Pan-American Games in 2006. He was born in Corozal in 1979.  Carlos José Tamara – Boxer. The light flyweight boxer Carlos Tamara won the silver medal at the 2003 Pan-American Games. In 2004 he competed for Colombia at the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
