Musicians, Composers and Singers

Lucho Bermúdez (1912-1994) – Musician and composer.
A famous composer of music from the Caribbean coast of Colombia, with rhythms that incorporated cumbia, porro, mapalé. He was a master clarinetist. He was also an orchestra director of popular music and had his own orchestra.
He received many prizes such as the "Caracol de Oro". Bermudez was born in Carmen de Bolívar.

Totó La Momposina – Popular music singer and dancer.
Her real name is Sonia Bazanta Vides. Internationally, she is considered one of the best Caribbean folk music interpreters.
In November 2011, she was honoured with the "Premio Nacional Vida y Obra" (a Ministry of Culture national award) .
She was born in Talaigua, Mompós in 1940.

Petrona Martínez – Popular music singer.
Petrona is a well-known Caribbean pop music singer. She is better known as "The Queen of the Bullerengue". She was born in San Cayetano in 1940.

Joe Arroyo (1956-2011) – Singer and composer.
Arroyo was one of the most famous salsa musicians in the Americas.
His voice has been heard in his 47 albums. He was the author of about 100 songs. He had his own orchestra.
His birthplace was Cartagena.

Sportsmen and Women

Bernardo Caraballo – Flyweight boxer.
He is a very well-known boxer internationally, and the most popular boxer in Colombia. Caraballo was born near Cartagena in 1939.

Antonio Cervantes (Kid Pambelé) – Boxer.
Kid Pambelé was the first Colombian world boxing champion. His first triumph was in 1972 and held the title consecutively for 5 years. He also won The Golden Gloves tournament.
He was born in San Basilio de Pelenque in 1945.

Prudencio Cardona – Flyweight boxer.
He stood atop the podium as a World Boxing Champion. He was born in San Basilio de Palenque in1951.

Daniel Reyes, (El olímpico) – Boxer.
Winner of the world boxing title in the minimum weight category. The veteran boxer from Bolivar completed 40 victories with this title. He represented Colombia at the Olympic Games of Atlanta 1996 in the flyweight division, where he was very close to a podium finish. He was born in Marialabaja in 1972.

Alejandro Berrío – Super middleweight boxer.
This extraordinary boxer received the title of World Champion in super middleweight category from the International boxing Confederation in 2007. He was born in Cartagena in 1977.

Cecilia Baena (Chechi) – Roller skater.
Cecilia was crowned as the national Champion in 1999, 2000, 2001 and a 7 time World Champion as an inline speed skater. She was born in Cartagena in 1986.
